The Gift of Family

I was single and without kids until this year, at the age of thirty seven.

For my entire life, I have found myself around both divorced and married men on a regular basis. Due to the fact that I was neither married or divorced, many guys have tried to live life vicariously through my own experiences. They always seemed to be mourning the things they “weren’t allowed to do anymore.” These men spoke of marriage as if it were a sentence away from their life of freedom. They spoke of family as is it were a burden to bear for the rest of their lives, always coming in last place.

When I was incarcerated, I would day dream about having a family of my own almost every day. For years, I worked to become a man that was worthy of leading a family of my own. For years, my wife and son asked God for a good man to complete their family.

Our family hangs out together a lot and we spend quality time together every single day. I know we are a young family, but we love each other reeeaaaally hard. We all know the pain of not having a happy family and we all probably thought it might not happen ever again. I know I did. I’m just saying that I love having a family. I love it so much, that anything less is huge loss. What an amazing gift from God.

I hope your family is blessed today!

Have a great week!
